Style Ideas: July 2011

Long before summer arrives, we start planning our seasonal wardrobe, thanks in part to the fast-forward motion of the fashion world. It isn’t until summer actually arrives, however, that the real fun begins! Yes, dear readers, now that summer is in full swing, we are busily plotting outfit after outfit, ready for everything that the season brings! On that note, today’s Style Ideas story includes four inspirational outfits for four different occasions you may come across this season: a cocktail party, a barbecue, a shopping expedition, and a simple day of running errands. So, click through for all the details and make sure you take notes as today’s story is full of ideas! Read on!

Cocktail Party
If you have a cocktail party on the calendar, there is no better season than summer to try a bold cocktail dress. For inspiration, make sure you look to Jaime King, who wore a bright red Amaba Arzuaga dress to an event in West Hollywood last month. We love Jaime’s ensemble because it looks effortless and easy, which is essential in summer, but it still makes a major style statement thanks to its bold color. To create an equally chic look, grab Markus Lupfer’s Rosette-Embellished Dress ($830) or Topshop’s Sleeveless Tuck Shift Dress ($95) and pair it with Joan & David’s Flipp2 Platform Pumps ($75). To finish, add Bryna Nicole’s Round Mini Messenger Bag ($109).

Barbecue
Gwen Stefani knows how to create amazing outfits for every occasion, which is why we are turning to her for inspiration for your summer barbecue ensembles. Late last month, Gwen was spotted out and about in Beverly Hills wearing a printed maxi dress and leather sandals. We love this ensemble for many reasons, but in particular we like that it doesn’t just look effortless, it actually is. Yes, it is easy to create and has a breezy vibe, but it still looks well thought out! You can create a similarly barbecue-ready look by grabbing Free People’s Rugby Stripe Column ($78) or Karina Grimaldi’s Biscot Long Tank Dress ($196) and pairing it with Envy’s Precious Ankle Wrap Sandals ($40).

Shopping
When you are out shopping, you don’t want to be bothered with fussy details that weigh you down, so make sure you look to Sienna Miller for outfit inspiration. Sienna was spotted out and about in Chicago last month wearing Tucker’s panel dress and ballet flats. Sienna has balanced the unfussy silhouette of her dress by choosing an interesting print. Similarly, she has chosen smart but fuss-free accessories. The result? An outfit that allows you to stylishly shop until you drop! You can compose your own stylish shopping ensemble by picking up ASOS’s Printed Tea Dress ($60.34) or Nasty Gal’s Comin’ Up Roses Lace Dress ($48) and adding Dolce Vita’s Lulu Ballet Flats ($103.50).

Running Errands
Even if you live a glamorous life, we all have lackluster days of errand-running—but that doesn’t mean you have to dress accordingly! On the contrary, just look to Ashley Olsen for style inspiration. Ashley stepped out in New York City last week wearing a sheer maxi dress, gold-trimmed sandals, and a leather bag. Her outfit checks all the right boxes for running errands. Uncomplicated outfit? Check! Stylish yet sensible footwear? Check! Large bag to carry everything you need? Check! On that note, you can make this look your own by picking up Kaelen’s Grandma Hannigan Long Mesh Dress ($105) and pairing it with Loeffler Randall’s Lila Twisted Mignon Sandals ($295).
