Style Ideas: Spring 2011

With spring in full swing and summer on the way, we are sure your social calendar is rapidly swelling with poolside parties, mini vacations, and other fun events. Accordingly, you probably have one question on your mind: what should I wear? Well, dear readers, let us put your mind at ease. Today’s inaugural edition of Style Ideas is devoted to providing you with ideas and tips for four different occasions—music festivals, summer weddings, exotic vacations, and summer BBQs—that pop up on the modern girl’s calendar. So, read on for all the details and make sure you take notes as today’s Style Ideas story is full of inspiration.

Music Festival
These days, music festivals are almost as much about the fashion as they are about the music. Accordingly, we decided to look to actress Sienna Miller for outfit inspiration. Last year, Sienna attended the Glastonbury Festival wearing an ensemble that stayed true to her modern-boho vibe. Specifically, Sienna started out with basics—a grey tank and denim shorts—and then added a crochet vest and printed hobo bag, which gave her ensemble a bohemian twist. You can put together a similar festival-ready look by grabbing Free People’s Lovely Blooms Vest ($88), Cleobella’s Ikat Boho Sack ($90), and Deena & Ozzy’s Foldover Boots ($68) and pairing these items with your favorite basics.

Summer Wedding
Actress Zoe Saldana always looks amazing on the red carpet, which is why we are turning to her for inspiration for your summer wedding ensembles. Last month, Zoe attended the Impact Awards in Los Angeles wearing a mushroom-pink Dolce & Gabbana cocktail dress and silver heels. Her look is perfect for a summer wedding—it is soft and feminine, it is appropriate for both day and night weddings, and while you will stand out, you won’t steal focus from the bride! You can create an equally chic look by picking up Parker’s Flowy Wrap Dress ($253) or ASOS Premium’s Floral Applique Silk Organza Shift Dress ($91.44) and pairing it with Butter’s Stanley Ankle-Strap Sandals ($212.30).

Exotic Vacation
If you are lucky enough to be heading off on an exotic vacation this summer, make sure you look to model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley for outfit inspiration. In December, Rosie took a quick trip to St. Barts, where she was spotted wearing a loose floral blouse and denim shorts—over her bikini, naturally! The look was casual, certainly, but it had a decidedly chic vibe thanks to the addition of smart accessories such as oversized sunglasses and silver sandals. So, if you are planning to escape this summer, make sure you pack Tolani’s Paisley Tunic Top ($110), Free People’s Denim Cut-Off Shorts ($68), and Burberry’s Animal Beat Check Sandals ($295) alongside your swimsuit.

Summer BBQ
Finally, nothing signals the start of summer like a casual barbecue with friends. For outfit inspiration, we decided to turn to actress Kirsten Dunst, who is known for creating simple yet stylish ensembles. For example, last month, Kirsten was spotted out and about in Los Feliz wearing a pink floral dress and red sandals. Not only does her outfit have a breezy, uncomplicated vibe, but it features a spot-on color palette for spring and summer! On that note, you can compose your own BBQ-ready look by picking up Lucca Couture’s Ditsy Floral Dress ($64) or Topshop’s Floral Tier Chiffon Dress ($95) and pairing it with Frye’s Lauren Flower Sandals ($147.95).
