Style Spy: Concerts

For our latest edition of Style Spy, we’re putting the spotlight on six of our favorite tastemakers and the stylish ensembles they put together to pay tribute to music concerts.

Style Spy: Concerts

Music and fashion have always had a special relationship: in the 1920s, flapper fashion was synonymous with the Jazz Age; in the 1960s, a crowd of hippies descended on Bethel, New York, for the Woodstock music festival; and, in the early 1990s, grunge music went hand-in-hand with grunge clothing. To sum up: fashion needs music like music needs fashion, which leads us to today’s story. For our latest edition of Style Spy, we’re putting the spotlight on six of our favorite tastemakers and the stylish ensembles they put together to pay tribute to music.

Of course, eagle-eyed fashionistas will notice a few key trends: comfortable-yet-chic pieces, a no-fuss handbag, plenty of solid colors (preferably in understated, neutral tones,) and oversized accessories such as cuffs and pendants. With these key elements in mind, we’re ready to delve into concert style, courtesy of these six stylish starlets, and provide you with all the inspiration you need! Read on!

Blake Lively
Gossip Girl actress Blake Lively—known for her body-hugging outfits and long, long legs—has caught our attention with this easy-yet-edgy ensemble, which she wore last month to see Rihanna perform in Madison Square Garden. Her mesh tee and silk shorts are the perfect pop concert combination—they are subtly sexy, lightweight and cool for the girl who loves to dance, and in dark rock & roll-appropriate shades. If you love this look, try pairing Madewell’s Parlor Top ($48) with Robert Rodriguez’s Stretch Silk Shorts ($153.90). For the finishing touch, add Jimmy Choo’s Crystal Suede Sandals ($975) or Nine West’s Jemmia Sandals ($44.97).

Jessica Alba
One of the things we love most about actress Jessica Alba’s fashion aesthetic is her uncanny ability to put together effortless event-appropriate outfits, as evidenced by the bold ensemble she wore to a Jay-Z concert in March. Her flirty body-con dress is balanced with the addition of utilitarian lace-up boots and a washed denim jacket. The result? An ultra-cool outfit with a rocker-chic twist. If you’re ready to try this look, start with a draped gray dress such as BCBGMaxAzria’s Draped Dress ($188) or Velvet’s Paris Dress ($83.30). Then, simply add Banana Republic’s Heritage Denim Riding Jacket ($130) and Joie’s Jovi Lace Up Flat Boots ($465) to complete the look.

Kate Bosworth
Actress Kate Bosworth is consistently one of Coachella’s best dressed attendees, so we weren’t surprised to see Kate in yet another flawless concert ensemble—slouchy sweater, floral mini skirt, and suede cowgirl boots—when spotted at a Kings Of Leon concert in Los Angeles. Kate’s look is part California cool, part boho, and part modern downtown girl, the sum of which is one super-stylish rock concert look. To take a page out of Kate’s book, pair Sparkle & Fade’s Dolman Sleeve Pullover Sweater ($48) with Blue Life’s Double Tiered Skirt ($84) or Free People’s Tea Party Floral Skirt ($22.90). Finish with a pair of Nine West’s TheLineUp Boots ($98.95).

Sienna Miller
British actress Sienna Miller has a slew of fashion personalities, from 70s-inspired bohemian to rock & roller to modern London “it” girl, which she channeled in June to watch The Dead Weather perform in London. Her cropped tee and suede high-waist shorts feel fresh and fashion-forward—especially when paired with buckled wedges—which makes them perfect for an indie rock concert. For a similarly stylish look, layer LNA’s Loose Cropped Tee ($68) over Topshop’s Suede Pleat Shorts ($135). A pair of buckled wedges, such as ASOS’s Randal Buckle Wedge Shoes ($67.40), and a silver cuff, like John Hardy’s Contour Cuff ($1,995), will complete your look.

Kristen Stewart
Back in June, Twilight actress Kristen Stewart was spotted at a Sam Bradley concert in Los Angeles wearing the unofficial uniform of musicians everywhere: jeans. As per her off-duty aesthetic, Kristen paired hers with an unfussy band t-shirt and a simple black sneakers. The result is an easy, effortless, and super-accessible ensemble that is perfect for any and every concert. For an equally low-key ensemble, try pairing DL1961’s Lindsey Slim Jeans ($158) with WGACA’s Rock Harley Studded T-Shirt ($98). Finalize your outfit with a pair of Schoolyard Sneakers ($18) from Urban Outfiters and Rockelle 1265’s Braided Wrap Bracelet ($99).

Jessica Biel
Last, but certainly not least, we turn to actress Jessica Biel, who headed to LA’s Kings Of Leon concert in July wearing a smartly-styled ensemble: skinny jeans, timeless trench, chic ballet flats, and a knit beanie. All in all, Jessica’s look is as uncomplicated as it is sophisticated, which makes it perfect for a night of great music! If you’re ready to try Jessica’s look, start with a pair of J Brand’s 10″ Skinny Jeans ($198) and Zoe Tees’ Gathered Jersey T-Shirt ($40.25). Add a classic trench, such as Burberry’s Brit Double Breasted Trench ($895) or Gap’s Cropped Trench Coat ($79.50), and then finish with Wooden Ships’s Fine Rib Beret ($24).
