Gird your loins, fashion fans! New York Fashion Week begins on Thursday and London, Milan and Paris are set to follow. Of course, you know that one of the most exciting parts of fashion week—apart from the stirring fashion shows, naturally—is the cornucopia of street style that can be found, which brings us to today’s Style Spy story! We’ve rounded up four of our favorite outfits from fashion weeks gone by to inspire you—whether you’re lucky enough to attend or not! On that note, it’s time to sit back and get inspired by today’s Style Spy subjects! Read on!
Kate Bosworth at New York Fashion Week
Gorgeous actress Kate Bosworth is a fashion chameleon who can, it seems, effortlessly switch from one look to the next with a snap of her finger. At Calvin Klein’s fall 2010 show, Kate opted for a side of her fashion personality we just love—smart and sophisticated—by pairing a leather pencil skirt with a fresh white blouse. The result? A look that is simple and thoroughly modern. You can put together an equally smart outfit by coupling Barlow’s Yori Shirt ($92.40) with Topshop’s Premium Camel Leather Pencil Skirt ($135). The finishing touch? Steve Madden’s Trinitie Suede Stiletto Pumps ($69.99).
Mary-Kate Olsen at London Fashion Week
When it comes to fashion, Mary-Kate Olsen is always one to watch. Happily, she didn’t disappoint when she was spotted at Burberry’s fall 2010 show last year. We think her patent ankle boots are to-die-for, but we particularly love her wool trench coat—not only is it a fashion week staple, but it is also an investment piece that you will always return to! If Mary-Kate’s ensemble caught your eye, try pairing Miss Sixty’s Wool Belted Trench Coat ($123.29) or Marc New York’s Wool Blend Double Breasted Belted Jacket ($156.59) with a LBD and Stella McCartney’s Faux Patent Ankle Booties ($212.40).
Ashley Greene at Milan Fashion Week
As you can see, there are no hard and fast rules at fashion week—in fact, you can choose any style direction at all. If you want to wear something whimsical and pretty, however, you should look to Twilight actress Ashley Greene for inspiration. Her feminine frock—which she wore to Dolce & Gabbana’s fall 2010 show—is a perfect choice. Plus, her sheer booties give it a fresh and modern twist. To emulate Ashley’s girly ensemble, grab Cut25’s Erosion Silk Chiffon Dress ($395) or Joie’s Campbell Dress ($258). Then, simply add a pair of BCBGMaxAzria’s Lisa Pumps ($137.50).
Clémence Poésy at Paris Fashion Week
Last, but certainly not least, we turn to French actress Clémence Poésy for inspiration on how to put together a casual-yet-chic ensemble for fashion week. For Lanvin’s fall 2010 show, Clémence paired faded gray jeans with a silky unstructured jacket. The result? An effortless look that looks like you tried just hard enough. To put together a similarly stylish look, layer Lutz & Patmos’s Reversible Silk T-Shirt ($132) under Laugh, Cry, Repeat’s Silk Blazer ($198), and then add Current/Elliott’s The Skinny Jeans ($208). Finish your ensemble with a pair of Jeffrey Campbell’s Fringe Lace Up Suede Booties ($178).
