We have already explored the street style that was on display at fashion week, but our coverage doesn’t end there, dear readers. Today’s special edition Style Spy story is devoted to exploring what some of our favorite style stars—including Maggie Gyllenhaal, Olivia Palermo, Sophia Bush, and Zoe Saldana—wore to the spring 2012 collections and how they styled it. So, whether you are looking for outfit inspiration for right now or you are looking ahead to next fashion week, sit back and prepare to be inspired! (And make sure you check back later in the week to see what your favorite fashion insiders wore!) Read on!
As you know, fashion week has almost as many parties as it does shows, which is why an outfit that easily transitions between these events is of the utmost importance. On that note, we love the outfit Maggie Gyllenhaal put together for the Mulberry 40th Anniversary celebration. Her dress stands out on its own, but her blazer and structured shoulder bag give the ensemble a sophisticated touch. Bonus: by removing the blazer, Maggie can spice up her party ensemble when the lights go down. To make this outfit your own, pick up Issa’s Kimono Dress ($725) or Oasis’s Floral Maxi Dress ($54.89) and pair it with Topshop’s Slimline Tux Blazer ($130). Finish with Michael Michael Kors’ Saddle Bag ($228).
Olivia Palermo is always one to watch when fashion week arrives and, as you can see, she didn’t disappoint at the Tibi presentation. Olivia wore a white necktie blouse, which she paired with brown leather shorts and leopard-print pumps. We love the mash-up of elements in this ensemble—while the blouse has a Parisian chic vibe, the shorts and heels have a downtown cool aesthetic. The result? An outfit that works at all four fashion weeks! You can put together a similarly stylish ensemble by pairing See By Chloe’s Necktie Blouse ($225) with Tibi’s High Waisted Leather Shorts ($550) or River Island’s Faux Leather Shorts ($64.03). Then, simply add Pour La Victoire’s Ivette Platform Pumps ($289).
While we love Olivia’s hint of leather, we are equally enamored with the way Sophia Bush went for an all-leather look. Although the brown leather dress has an edgy vibe, Sophia has ensured that her ensemble errs on the feminine side by picking a dress with a figure-flattering silhouette and pairing it with smart accessories like suede pumps and a statement clutch. The studded belt balances the entire outfit. To emulate Sophia’s chic ensemble, pick up Robert Rodriguez’s Belted Leather Dress ($895) or Vince’s Sleeveless Leather Dress ($595) and pair it with Pelle Moda’s Yana Suede Platform Pumps ($150). Then, add accessories like Halston Heritage’s Rainbow Python Clutch ($530) and you are all set.
Leave it to Zoe Saldana to put together a sleek and sophisticated ensemble for fashion week. Yes, Zoe attended the Michael Kors show wearing a cashmere bodysuit, which she paired with a pencil skirt, a skinny belt, and a leather clutch, all by Michael Kors. We particularly like the way Zoe has opted for a monochromatic look—it adds an interesting element to the ensemble, but it also hones the streamlined silhouette. It also makes Zoe’s red nail polish really pop. To put together an equally chic look, pick up Ralph Lauren’s Cross-Front Halter Top ($398) and pair it with Topshop’s Belted Pencil Skirt ($70). Complete the look with BCBGeneration’s Gretel Sandals ($45.99) and J Crew’s Invitation Clutch ($138).
