Style Spy: Rompers/Jumpsuits

Take a quick look at the streets of Hollywood and you will probably get the same impression as us: rompers and playsuits are in for spring. One-pieces of all kinds – from mini rompers to tapered jumpsuits – are a fun way to spice up your outfit and give that little something extra, so it’s no surprise that many fashion-forward celebrities are taking the bait.

As with many budding trends, the look first emerged on the spring runways. While brands like Erin Fetherston opted for sleek, tapered jumpsuits in black, labels like Lacoste kept things flirty and feminine with ruffled rompers in white. This tells us one thing: the look is yours to make of it what you will, so try anything!

Whatever you choose, one-pieces are a great look for spring and will hopefully be here to stay for a while. If you’re curious about how to style this look, take a look at our four celebrity guinea-pigs as they’re doing all the work for you! If you want to try a romper or a jumpsuit this spring, just take your styling cues from Kate, Mia, Mischa and Jessica.

Kate Hudson, who has a penchant for pairing breezy hippie prints with laidback, Californian-chic accessories, wore a floral romper with a pair of Ugg boots while out and about in January (far left). This Sweet Springtime Romper ($118) has a similarly bohemian feel and would look great paired with flip flops or ethnic sandals, like this pair of Slim Ethnic Havaianas ($24).

While Kate went for an earthy look, Mia Wasikowska (second from left) went for a glamorous, electric look, wearing a metallic jumpsuit with slightly out-there hips! Although you may have the courage to pull a look like this off, we decided some toned down options were our best bet. Our three favorites: Dolce Vita’s Jolene Jumpsuit ($200.20), Dolce Vita’s Deena Combo Romper ($232) or Wink’s Yasmin Bow-Shoulder Metallic Silk Romper ($115.50).

Mischa Barton (second from right) also decided on a floral romper, pairing it with black tights and a pair of white round-toed pumps. You can get a similar look by grabbing Free People’s Floral Garden Romper ($108) and adding these Ambitious Pumps ($69) from Nine West. For a more refined look, do as Mischa has done and belt your romper at the waist.

Our final trendsetter is Jessica Alba (far right), who threw on a plaid romper with black tights and a pair of black riding boots, for a tough-yet-toned-down look. For your version of the real thing, grab RVCA’s Touche Romper ($49.97) and then add a pair of RSVP’s Rider Boots ($99).

I think Hollywood is ruining the romper for me. I am I a tad cynical? How knows.
