There is no better time of year to stash your neutral pieces and break out your most colorful pieces. With that said, we’re sure a little inspiration on how to wear them would certainly not go amiss, right? Happily, today’s Style Spy story has all that and more. We have rounded up four colorful outfits from four stylish stars—specifically, Emily Blunt, Jaime King, Miranda Kerr, and Jessica Alba—and we have all the details on how they work color and how you can try these looks for yourself. Read on!
Who is wearing color?
Since spring officially sprung, several of our favorite stars have brought out their best brights. Jessica Alba was one of the first—she wore a blue sweater and orange trousers to Brad Goreski’s book launch party in West Hollywood last month. A week later, Jaime King wore an aqua Prabal Gurung short suit to a birthday bash in Los Angeles. A few days after that, Miranda Kerr was spotted running errands in a hot pink sweater in Hollywood. Most recently, however, Emily Blunt wore a sunny yellow dress to an Elie Saab event in New York City.
How are they styling it?
The best thing about wearing bright colors is that you can try the look on just about any occasion. For instance, if you want to keep your look on the casual side, you can take tips from Miranda, who wore her pink sweater with denim shorts and suede Isabel Marant booties. The pop of color helped to give her otherwise simple outfit a fun twist. If you need to step it up a notch, we suggest you look to both Jaime and Jessica. Both these women opted for almost head-to-toe color, so they needed to keep their accessories on the simple side. Jaime paired her boldly-printed blouse and bright shorts with strappy black sandals, while Jessica added cap-toe pumps and a simple black biker jacket. For both girls, these touches of black allowed their more colorful pieces to take center stage. Now, if you are looking for a dressier look, you can follow in the footsteps of Emily. She opted for head-to-toe color, pairing her sunny yellow dress with matching sandals. The key to mastering her look is to keep everything else quite simple—a dash of red lipstick and you are all set.
How can I make this look my own?
Now for the fun part—shopping! If you want to try a bright color in a casual way, try pairing a lightweight sweater like Gap’s Neon Spray Crewneck Sweater ($30-$40) or Theory’s Aleksy Open-Knit Wool Sweater ($265) with a pair of shorts or a cute mini skirt. If you want to try incorporating color into your day-to-night wardrobe, try pairing a top like Zara’s Asymmetrical Hem Top ($40) with Kookai’s Bright Tailored Pants ($107). If you are feeling particularly bold, you could then add an amazing shoe like Stuart Weitzman’s Livia Strappy Color Block Sandals ($385). Last, but certainly not least, if you are ready to give your formal wardrobe a splash of color, check out Nanette Lepore’s Dulce Dress ($298). Whether you pick the sunflower yellow iteration or the fiesta pink, it will look amazing with Pierre Hardy’s Silk-Crepe Peep-Toe Pumps ($288).
