Style Spy: Spring Sunnies

It is sunglasses season, ladies, which means there is plenty to think about, not least of which is what pair of shades you should be sporting this season. If you are still deciding, today’s Style Spy story is here to provide you with inspiration and ideas—with a little help from Nicole Richie, Jessica Alba, Emma Roberts, and Beyonce. No matter which shape or style you prefer, you are sure to find something inside, so click through for all the details and make sure you take notes as we have a bounty of information waiting for you in today’s story.

Who is our inspiration?
Today’s inspiration comes from four lovely ladies who have each tried very different styles. For instance, Nicole Richie was spotted out and about in New York City in March wearing a pair of extreme cat-eye sunglasses, a look that definitely stays true to her signature vibe. Jessica Alba was spotted in Los Angeles back in March wearing a pair of retro rectangular frames that gave her otherwise feminine outfit a sharp twist. Emma Roberts wore a pair of printed sunglasses while out and about in New York City in March, instantly elevating her outfit from simple to statement. Last, but certainly not least, Beyonce stayed true to her musical roots by wearing a pair of John Lennon-inspired circle frames while out in New York City back in March.

How are they styling their sunglasses?
These four ladies are each known for their personal style, so it is not surprising to see that they have all styled their sunglasses in very different ways. Nicole, as always, makes her sunglasses an integral part of her outfit; to her, they are not just an accessory, but rather the accessory. As such, it makes sense that she opts for an oversized, stand-out pair, because they are almost the focus of her entire outfit. Jessica, however, has used her sunglasses in a different way: to balance her outfit. By picking a pair of sunglasses with sharp lines and corners, she instantly equalizes the softness of her outfit. Emma uses her sunglasses in an entirely different way—as an accent piece. The printed frames definitely draw attention, but not so much that they steal attention from her pretty embroidered jacket, which is a statement piece in its own right. As for Beyonce, she used her sunglasses to complete her bold and colorful outfit. To be more specific, an outfit like this needs accessories that can hold their own and won’t fade into the background.

How can I make these looks my own?
Now that you have reached the shopping stage, you are ready to have some major fun, but make sure you keep one thing in mind as you shop: buy a pair of sunglasses that suits your face and your personality. With that said, if you want to make Nicole’s look your own and grab a pair of extreme cat-eye sunglasses, we like Urban Outfitters’s Colorblock Extreme Cat-Eye Sunglasses ($16), Mango’s Cat-Eye Sunglasses ($30), and the Nicole-designed Chelsea Cat Eye Sunglasses ($132) by House of Harlow 1960. If you want a pair of square-ish frames like Jessica’s, check out Jeepers Peepers’s Square Neon Sunglasses ($29) and D&G’s Glam Square Sunglasses ($135). If you want a printed pair a la Emma, check out Elizabeth & James’s Leopard Fairfax Sunglasses ($185) and Topshop’s Ikat-Print Sunglasses ($32). Finally, if you are ready to follow in the footsteps of Beyonce and take a trip back in time, take a look at American Apparel’s Vintage Sunglasses ($150) and The Row’s Circle Sunglasses ($445). Happy shopping!
