Style Tips: Fall 2012

When a new season arrives, it is like a fashion dream. Not only will you find tons of amazing new pieces in the stores, not to mention a whole new color palette to work with, but it is also a great time to revamp your style and experiment with different looks and ideas. With that said, it can be tricky knowing where to begin, but we think our latest edition of Style Tips is a great place to start. Each of these three tips will show you how to work a new look with aplomb and give you the pieces with which to do it. So what are you waiting for? Click through for a wardrobe revamp!

Look for leather pieces in interesting colors and textures.
While leather is a staple fabric on the runways, this season it has been seen in colors and textures of all kinds, which gives it a bold new feel. We like the way Maria Sharapova recently worked a red laser-cut leather Valentino dress. Red leather is always edgy, but the laser-cut texture gives it a girly twist. To work a similar look this fall, check out pieces like ANN.C’s Leather Dropwaist Shift Dress ($525), Kelly Wearstler’s Newton Leather Moto Jacket ($1,195), and Alice + Olivia’s Abby Leather Laser-Cut Dress ($238). All three will catch the eye, whether via color, texture, or both!

Try anything in deep red, bold burgundy, or maroon.
A deep wine-red or burgundy is the color for fall and there are so many ways to wear it that you won’t have to look for. We are particularly partial to the look that Blake Lively recently put together. Her burgundy Gucci dress has a subtly sexy silhouette that is nicely balanced by the dark hue. Her corresponding heels emphasize the overall color without looking too matchy-matchy. To give this color palette a try this fall, check out ModCloth’s Windy City Dress ($65), Rag & Bone’s Colorblock Crewneck Sweater ($125), and Need Supply Co.’s Chateau Dress ($38)—and remember, this color flatters everyone!

Pick out a pair of heels with a flattering, sexy ankle-strap.
While some of us are a natural in heels, others of us have trouble, which means an ankle-strap can be a lifesaver! Luckily, ankle-straps are having a moment right now and it certainly doesn’t hurt that you can take your inspiration from Olivia Palermo. Do as Olivia has done this fall and pair yours with skinny jeans that hit just above the strap, or try yours out with a flared mini dress. Ready to try? These three pairs are hard to say no to: Jean-Michel Cazabat’s Lex Ankle-Strap Pumps ($275), B Brian Atwood’s Colorblock Snakeskin Sandals ($325), and Zara’s Shiny Sandals ($90).
