Style Tips: Leather Pants

Of all the pieces you are coveting this season—bright sun dresses, wide-leg jeans, platform heels galore—it seems that leather pants have also popped up on your sartorial radar. Lately, we have received a stack of requests questioning the best way to wear this rocker-chic look, so we have gone ahead and rounded up a bounty of inspiration for you. Whether you prefer a classic vibe, or you want to incorporate your leather pants into a bohemian wardrobe, we’re sure you’ll find plenty of ideas in today’s Style Tips story! Read on!

1. A beige trench paired with leather skinnies is classic and chic.
If you like to walk the line between timeless and contemporary, make sure you take notes from Nicky Hilton. Nicky was recently spotted wearing leather skinny pants, a beige Burberry Bespoke trench, and pointed pumps. While her trench gives her ensemble a classic tone, her leather pants give the look some modern flavor. To try an equally chic look, pick up Michael Michael Kors’ Short Leather Trim Trench ($200) and pair it with Mackage’s Leather Leggings ($685) and Aldo’s Rya Pumps ($49.98).

2. Balance leather skinnies with soft cashmere.
Leather pants have an air of toughness that requires a confident attitude. If you want to soften the look a little, take inspiration from Australian model Miranda Kerr and balance your leather with a cashmere sweater or a soft tee. The result is a look that is perfect for the modern girl—part rock and roll, part classic, wholly of-the-minute. Inspired? Pick up J Crew’s Cashmere V-Neck Sweater ($145) and pair it with Neiman Marcus’s Stretch Leather Leggings ($195).

3. Try cropped pants for a low-key yet luxe look.
One of the things we love most about leather pants is that they can be worn dressed up or down. For proof, take a look at Gwyneth Paltrow, who recently paired The Row’s cropped leather pants with a printed top and ballet flats. The look is casual, certainly—Gwyneth could easily swap her pants for jeans—but the leather gives it an interesting twist. Ready to try? Pair Madison Marcus’s Ikat Blouse ($238) with Notify’s Cropped Leather Flared Pants ($925) and Lucky Brand’s Emmie Ballet Flats ($59).

4. Channel Stevie Nicks by pairing leather with fringe.
As you know, 1970s influences are everywhere this season, which is why we love this look from British model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. Rosie has channeled one of the style icons of the decade—Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks—and paired her leather pants with an embroidered kimono and slouchy boots. The result? A look that perfectly befits the modern bohemian. With this in mind, you can put together a similarly cool look by grabbing Topshop’s Feather Fringe Kimono ($120), Current/Elliott’s Leather Leggings ($795) and Ash’s Iman Chain Detail Boots ($144).
