Style Tips: Spring 2012

When spring arrives, it brings with it many things—sunshine, music festivals, picnics on the beach—but nothing has us more excited than the chance to revamp our style. The only problem is where to begin? Well, consider that problem solved! Today’s Style Tips story will help give your personal style a quick facelift—whether you have an endless budget or you plan to shop from your own closet this season. Even better, this is just part one—a second batch of style tips will arrive on Monday! So what are you waiting for? Read on!

Take a trip back to the 20s in a deco dress.
Deco dresses are having a major moment right now and they are certain to make you the life of the party. With that said, we suggest you take notes on this look from Brooklyn Decker, who recently gave a deco dress a modern twist by pairing it with chunky gold sandals. Not only does this make her outfit look oh-so now, but it is also effortlessly easy to put together—a complete party ensemble in just two easy pieces. On that note, you can try this look for yourself by pairing Sue Wong’s Beaded Empire-Waist Dress ($470) or French Connection’s Pearl Queen Strappy Dress ($498) with Pelle Moda’s Posey Strappy Sandals ($139).

Step into spring with a bold floral print.
Bold floral prints were all over the spring runways, making then a must-try look. The only problem? They can be a little overwhelming. Luckily, Jessica Alba has seamlessly translated this runway look into reality by pairing bright floral trousers with a colorful top. The key to mastering this look is simple. First, pick a pair of pants in colors that you are comfortable with. Then, find a top that matches one of those colors. Easy, right? On that note, we suggest you check out both DKNY’s Floral Slim Pants ($225), which would look amazing with a black tee, and Zara’s Cropped Printed Trousers ($60), which would look great with a bright blue top.

Change up your office look with a soft suit.
It is no secret that a 9-5 job can drain the life out of your wardrobe, but it doesn’t have to, especially if you take notes from Elizabeth Olsen this spring. Elizabeth was recently spotted wearing a bright white dress, which she paired with a cream blazer and nude heels. The result is an instantly-chic ensemble perfect for those who want to change up their office attire this spring. So, how can you make this look work for you? Simply pick pale pieces in silhouettes that you are already comfortable with and are appropriate for your office. For instance, pair Guess’s Gloria Solid Pencil Dress ($188) with Rory Beca’s Sofia Lace Blazer ($143).

Update your LBD with a peplum silhouette.
If you find that you turn to your little black dress whenever the occasion calls, why not give it an update this spring with a peplum silhouette and some inspiration from Diane Kruger. As you can see, if you follow Diane’s lead, the peplum is not as scary as it looks. The key is to ensure that the rest of the dress clings to the body and that you choose a pair of heels that flatter and ideally elongate the leg. Ready to try? Check out Alice + Olivia’s Victoria Peplum Dress ($264) and Hybrid’s Sleeveless Peplum Dress ($152), both of which would look perfect with Giuseppe Zanotti’s Open-Toe Double Platform Pumps ($650).
