Style Tips: Transitional Dressing

What is a girl to do when it is too warm for chunky coats and too cool for sun dresses and sandals? Lately, we have received a pile of requests questioning the best way to dress in these in-between months and we are happy to help, dear readers! For today’s Style Tips story, we have rounded up some fresh outfit inspiration—courtesy of Jaime King, Mila Kunis, Miranda Kerr, and Zoe Saldana—that will help you easily transition your wardrobe from summer to fall! On that note, we suggest you sit back and read on for all the need-to-know details!

1. Pair a flirty skirt with a lightweight sweater.
If you still want to get some mileage out of your favorite flirty skirt, make sure you take notes from Jaime King. Earlier this month, Jaime was spotted at a party in Los Angeles wearing a floral embroidered skirt, a grey sweater, and silver platform pumps. While her skirt is still breezy enough for a summer soiree, her short-sleeved sweater will keep her warm as we make the transition through to fall. To create an equally chic party look, pick up Alice + Olivia’s Annalise Fringed Skirt ($375) or DAY Birger et Mikkelsen’s Splendour Sequined Georgette Skirt ($200) and pair it with Juicy Couture’s Reverse Jersey Pullover ($158) and Pour La Victoire’s Irina Platform Pumps ($208.25).

2. Add a chic jacket to a jeans-and-tee combo.
A simple jeans-and-tee combo is great for running errands, but what should you wear when the weather turns? If you want to stay warm, take inspiration from Mila Kunis and add a chic jacket to the mix. The result is a look that meets all the criteria for a modern girl-on-the-go. Fuss-free? Check! Effortlessly stylish? Check! Ladylike? Check! You can make this look your own by picking up a jacket like J Crew’s Platinum Tweed Jacket ($475) or Marni’s Blazer ($470). Then, simply add your favorite tee, a pair of Topshop’s Moto Vintage Blue Organic Baxter Jeans ($80), and then slip into French Sole’s India Patent Ballet Shoes ($137.91) to finish.

3. Pair a bohemian dress with a boyfriend blazer.
As you know, bohemian dresses are having a major moment right now and one of the best things about them is that they can be worn through fall. For proof, take a look at Miranda Kerr, who recently paired a floral dress with a boyfriend blazer and strappy sandals. By adding a blazer—an essential that every woman should have—to her summery ensemble, Miranda has ensured she can wear the outfit through fall. Inspired? Pair Topshop’s Draped Tux Jacket ($170) with a dress like Joie’s Camay Belted Silk Dress ($162.90) or Wyatt’s Rachel Hi-Low Hem Dress ($89.99). Complete the look with Banana Republic’s Levona Braided Strappy Heels ($79.99).

4. Accessorize with a lightweight, gauzy scarf.
There is no easier way to rework an ensemble than with a stylish accessory, which is why we love the outfit Zoe Saldana was spotted wearing while out and about earlier this month. By simply adding a lightweight scarf to her outfit, Zoe has given her ensemble a stylish, bohemian twist and added an extra layer of warmth that will last through fall. Layering is a necessity in the colder months, so picking a scarf that can easily be slipped on and off is perfect! Make this look your own by picking up J Crew’s Stretch Perfect Shirt ($49.50) and Victoria’s Secret’s Tulip Skirt ($29.50) and then adding Rag & Bone’s Tomkin Scarf ($125).
