Before there was Carrie Bradshaw, The Fashionista, there was Carrie Bradshaw, The Teenager. In her new book, The Carrie Diaries, original Sex & The City author Candace Bushnell takes us back to Carrie’s early years as a teenager in small-town Connecticut who “knew she wanted more.”
With a very different cast of characters to Sex & The City, the book focuses on Carrie’s senior year of high school, the betrayal of a friend and her romance with Sebastian Kydd. Carrie fans will learn all the missing pieces from her earlier years, including her family background, how she decided to become a writer and her plans for New York City.
Due out on April 27, just weeks before the premiere of the second SATC movie, the book is just part one of two pre-SATC novels. In Spring 2011, Bushnell plans to chronicle Carrie’s post-graduation summer; the same summer in which she meets Samantha Jones.
Unfortunately, the book doesn’t have the styling genius of Patricia Fields, which made Sex & The City, The Show, what it was. You’ll just have to put your imagination to work as you read this lighthearted look back at Carrie’s life, and imagine her in the most fabulous clothes of the 1970s which are no doubt vintage relics in her current closet.
