Now that the tail end of summer is almost upon us, you are probably spending every last minute soaking up the last rays of sun, which doesn’t leave much time for taking in all that the fashion world has to offer. Happily, our latest installment of The Hot List is here to bring you up to speed on all the major happenings in the world of fashion—from what to look forward to, where to go, what to read, and what to wear. On that note, here is everything you need to know in the month of August! Read on!
Lollapalooza Street Style
There are still a few major music festivals on the summer calendar, which means there is still plenty of amazing festival fashion to peruse. In particular, we are looking forward to Lollapalooza, which takes places later this week in Chicago. Since we won’t be there to take in the musical stylings of Coldplay, Foo Fighters, Muse, or My Morning Jacket, we will excitedly anticipate the sartorial stylings of the celebrities, models, and citizens that attend!
House of Harlow 1960 Bags
It is no secret that Nicole Richie loves accessories—she has an enviable collection of vintage Chanel handbags, not to mention a lustworthy set of oversized sunglasses—so we weren’t surprised to hear she is adding handbags to her House of Harlow 1960 accessories label. The 14-piece collection includes clutches, hobos, and cross-body bags. While the bags won’t be available for a few more weeks, you can pre-order them now at Singer22 and Boutique To You.
Although summer never feels quite long enough, we do secretly look forward to the fall/winter season. After all, there are just so many things to get excited about! Examples? Chunky knit sweaters, cozy scarfs, Fashion’s Night Out, faux fur coats, lace-up ankle boots, party season, smoky eye makeup, the return of The Rachel Zoe Project, the September issues, the spring 2012 collections, thick tights, and more. On that note, let the countdown begin!
Elizabeth Taylor: Her Life In Style
When Elizabeth Taylor passed away in March, the world lost not just an Academy Award-winning actress, but a screen legend and fashion icon. Elizabeth Taylor: Her Life In Style is a photographic retrospective that looks back at Taylor’s major fashion moments, both on-screen and off—from her red carpet gowns through to her collection of diamonds. Elizabeth Taylor: Her Life In Style ($29.95), which features over 100 pages of photographs, is available now at Amazon.com.

If you love the sleek and sophisticated aesthetic of Michael Kors, you will love his debut jewelry collection even more. The full collection is available now at select Michael Kors boutiques, as well as online at MichaelKors.com. Prices range from $100 through to $500.

If you have been looking for a reason to expand your handbag collection, here it is. Kate Spade has teamed up with stylists Emily Current and Meritt Elliott—yes, they of denim label Current/Elliott—on a capsule collection of handbags. Dubbed Westward by Emily and Merritt for Kate Spade New York, the collection features six styles, including a slouchy leather satchel and a sequined messenger bag. The six-style collection will be available later this month. Prices start at $245.
