The Hot List: July 2010

This month’s edition of The Hot List features the Sretsis x Thierry Lasry collaboration, Gap’s Perfect T Collection, Chanel Nouvelle Vague, Australian model Samantha Harris and more.

Sretsis x Thierry Lasry

French designer Thierry Lasry has teamed up with Thai label Sretsis on a collection of limited-edition sunglasses that couldn’t be more perfect for summer. Each frame comes in a cool shade of pink, purple or blue and is adorned with a smattering of tiny daisies. With a slight cat-eye and a bohemian vibe, these sunglasses are on-trend and, according to the designers, contain “enough flower-power to hypnotize a thousand wide-eyed girls.” Check Sretsis.com for stockists.

Converse x Music Legends

Iconic footwear label Converse has seen its Chuck Taylor All-Stars on the feet of such legendary rock & rollers as The Ramones, Kurt Cobain and U2. This month, the label is paying homage to another great rocker – Jimi Hendrix – with the release of the Converse Jimi Hendrix Chuck Taylors. Fans of the celebrated guitarist can choose between three styles of sneaker, each adorned with Hendrix’s image and retailing for around $54.95.

Gap’s Perfect Ts

Gap’s never-ending quest for perfection has resulted in a new and improved Perfect T collection. The revamped line of t-shirts and tanks boasts a slimmer silhouette, super-soft burnout knits and a selection of fall-ready colors such as muted brown and eggplant. While you may never fully satisfy your t-shirt collection, Gap’s Perfect Ts come pretty close. The Perfect T Collection is available now in Gap stores and online at Gap.com.

Summer 2010

Summer is here! Summer is about salty sea water in your hair, tank tops and shorts, sunkissed skin, music festivals, low-key makeup, flirting, long and lazy days, flip-flops, icy cocktails, beachside barbecues or poolside parties, cute boys, bright colors like coral pink and ocean turquoise, bare feet, road trips, bare skin, warm evenings, sleepy nights, effortless beauty, sunshine, music on the radio and taking it easy.

Somewhere

Sofia Coppola’s new film, Somewhere, premieres in December; in the meantime, feast your senses on the just-released trailer. Somewhere tells the story of Johnny Marco (Stephen Dorff), a bad-boy Hollywood actor weighed down by the excessive life he has created. When his 11-year-old daughter Cleo (Elle Fanning) turns up, however, everything changes. Judging by the trailer, fans of Coppola’s hazy, dreamlike films and softly-spoken stories won’t be disappointed with the much-anticipated Somewhere.

Chanel Nouvelle Vague

If you fell madly in love with 2009’s cult hit nail color – Chanel Jade – you won’t be disappointed with its 2010 parallel. Inspired by an exotic seaside locale, Chanel Nouvelle Vague is a bold and bright turquoise that instantly pops against summer’s sunkissed skin. Even the name suggests it’s time to move on from Chanel Jade; Nouvelle Vague translates to “New Wave” in English. Chanel Nouvelle Vague is available now.

Samantha Harris

Stunning Australian model Samantha Harris is one of the modeling world’s fastest-rising stars. Samantha, who is of Aboriginal and German descent, is only the second indigenous model to appear on the cover of Vogue Australia. She walked in a record number of shows during Australian Fashion Week in April, has been photographed by Patrick Demarchelier and, later this year, plans to move to New York where we are sure her career will soar.

Pre-Fall Fringe

Summer is the perfect time to revamp your hairstyle, especially with a fresh new cut for fall. Take a leaf out of Sienna Miller’s book: the sassy actress has breathed fresh life into her boho vibe pre-fall with heavy bangs that are reminiscent of the actresses early days (think Sienna and Jude on the set of 2004’s Alfie). Add some extra glow with warm honey-blonde highlights.

Haute Couture Fashion Week

Say bonjour to couture – yesterday, Haute Couture Fashion Week kicked off in Paris. This season’s event is significant in that it marks a beginning and end. Today, Givenchy will show its couture collection on the catwalk for the last time; in the future, the label will conduct individual appointments. Also, jewelry has officially been introduced to the couture schedule – both Van Cleef & Arpels and Chanel Joaillerie will present collections.

Mad Men Season 4

Betty Draper, Joan Harris and Peggy Olson – arguably the three most stylish women on television – will return to our screens on July 25 with the premiere of Mad Men’s fourth season. While fans can expect plenty of classic 1960s silhouettes, head costume designer Janie Bryant is updating the shows wardrobe to reflect the mod lifestyle and youth culture of the late 1960s, with a focus on “more memorable costumes, more glitz!”
