The Hot List: October 2010

Hippie Luxe Bags
We know you have a slew of stylish bags in your closet, but there’s always room for one more. Hippie-luxe bags, such as the Wayuu Taya tribe’s Mochila bag (pictured) are everywhere this fall. Specifically, they’ve been spotted on the shoulders of Rachel Bilson, Sienna Miller, and Nicole Richie, which puts you in good company. Our faves? Simone Camille’s Carryall Embellished Cotton Shoulder Bag ($1,860), Cleobella’s Ikat Boho Sak ($98) and Wayuu Taya’s Green Navajo Bag ($98).

The ELLEments Of Personal Style
It’s Elle’s 25th anniversary! The fabulous fashion magazine is celebrating with a new tome that combines expert style advice from creative director Joe Zee and deputy editor Maggie Bullock with in-depth studies of such celebrated style icons as Diane von Furstenberg and Dita von Teese. Also included: style tips, interviews, commentary, and photographs (including sneak-peeks inside the homes and closets of each woman). Pre-order The ELLEments of Personal Style ($19.80) now at Amazon.com; it’s due out on October 14.

In it, you’ll find tips and tricks, Lauren’s favorite sources of inspiration, beauty advice, vintage shopping tips, and hairstyle guidance. The best part? Rebecca Taylor Limited Edition Tights
Now that the fall/winter season is here, you’re sure to be on the lookout for a cozy pair of tights. Why not amplify your look with a pair of Rebecca Taylor’s Sparkly Tights ($250). You may have spotted them in the Fall 2010 runway show, but what you might not know is each pair is adorned with over 1,500 Swarovski crystals. Choose from navy, light gray or khaki for a glam and gorgeous addition to any outfit.

Mulberry For Target
The highly-coveted English brand has recreated its sought-after bags for Target. The 18-style collection features signature Mulberry silhouettes in materials such as denim, pebbles faux leather, and velvet. Even better, fans can choose between bold prints (such as pink leopard print) or sleek solid colors (such as sophisticated black and navy blue). The entire collection is in stores now, as well as online at Target.com. Prices range from $14.99 to $49.99.

Fall 2010 Fashion
The east coast has experienced a deluge of rain in the past few weeks, which means one thing is certain: fall has arrived. Accordingly, we’re obsessed with autumnal fashion, including cozy capes, camel coats, plum lipstick, grunge-inspired eye makeup, chunky knits, velvet dresses, shearling-trimmed boots, and more. Each season, when fashion week rolls around, the streets of New York, London, Milan and Paris play host to a slew of stylish ladies (and men) that are dressed to kill! Thankfully, street style photographers such as Phil Oh, Tommy Ton, Scott Schuman, Garance Dore, Vanessa Jackman, Yvan Rodic, and Mr Newton, to name just a few, are there to capture every street style moment. And, trust us, there are moments!

Viva Vena
While there are a multitude of basics brands to choose from, some manage to stand out from the crowd. Specifically, Viva Vena, the new lower-priced t-shirt collection from New York-based label Vena Cava. Designers Sophie Buhai and Lisa Mayock have put together a casual collection of organic cotton and jersey tees, tanks and dresses, all printed with photo collages and hand-drawn motifs. The best part? The entire collection retails for under $200. Find it online at Shopbop.com and Ssense.com.

Jean Paul Gaultier & La Perla
Jean Paul Gaultier has lent his genius to Italy’s La Perla to create a range of high-end lingerie. We only have one thing to say: where do we sign up? That’s right, dear readers: the capsule lingerie collection, which spans 27 styles and is almost entirely handmade, is due to arrive in stores in November. Oh, did we mention it will include a recreation of the iconic cone bra Gaultier designed for Madonna in the 90s?
