Jessica Simpson’s return to reality television couldn’t come at a better time. Her new show, The Price Of Beauty, aims to prove to viewers that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes, a debate that has been raging in the fashion community for the last few years.
In The Price Of Beauty, Jessica travels the world to educate herself, and viewers, on the lengths women will go to to feel beautiful. In the first episode, Jessica and her entourage (hair stylist Ken Paves and longtime friend Cacee Cobb) visit Thailand. There, they meet a group of women who will go to extraordinary lengths to lighten their skin color. A trip into the mountains of northern Thailand reveals the Karen tribe, whose traditions include layering heavy rings around their neck.
As someone who has travelled a lot in the last few years, it is nice to see someone bringing the different visions of beauty throughout the world to the forefront. The show might not be the most important thing you’ll ever watch, but love her or hate her, the message behind it is an important one.
The Price Of Beauty does open your eyes to the extremes that women will go to; it might not be the same idea of beauty that you had in your mind, but it is every bit the same problem.
