The Proenza Schouler Surfboard

We knew that the boys at Proenza Schouler were inspired by the surf when they put together their Spring 2010 collection, but we didn’t know they were planning to take their inspiration to the next level. Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, the design duo behind Proenza, have collaborated with NYC-based store Kirna Zabete, on this limited-edition surfboard.

Each surfboard is made-to-order and has been hand-crafted by the Virginia Beach-based board maker Ken Trinder of Shire Boarding Company. The boards are made from premium foam, carbon fiber and inlaid shell veneers. Each board features a bright, wave print in rice paper beneath an epoxy resin finish. The print has been taken straight from the Proenza Schouler Spring 2010 pre-collection.

The boards are made from top-of-the-line foam, carbon fiber and inlaid shell veneers and each board features a bright graphic that has been taken straight from the Proenza Schouler catwalk.

“We wanted something young, something that felt fresh, so we looked to surfing and skating, the things we grew up on,” Lazara Hernandez said backstage after their Spring 2010 show. Does that mean we can expect a Proenza Schouler-designed skateboard in our Christmas stocking? We can only hope.

You can order your limited-edition Proenza Schouler surfboard from KirnaZabete.com for $2,995.
