Top Buys: Colorblock Bags

They were spotted all over the runways—at Marc Jacobs, Proenza Schouler, and Rag & Bone, just to name a few—and since the spring 2012 shows, we have seen them on the shoulders of top tastemakers like Zoe Saldana (pictured) and Sarah Jessica Parker. What are we talking about? Why, colorblock bags, of course! Yes, these statement-making and stylish accessories are the look du jour this season, so we have rounded up eight of our favorites for today’s Top Buys story. Click through to discover the colorblock bags we are coveting the most!

One of the great things about this mini-trend is that there are so many different color combinations to choose from. In other words, if you want to go bold, go bold—but if you don’t, there are plenty of options. On that note, let’s start with a few colorful choices. First up, we are awestruck by the new PS11 Clutch ($1,175) by Proenza Schouler. The citrus-inspired color combination makes it a perfect pick for the upcoming spring/summer season. Just remember, when your bag makes such a statement, the rest of your look will pale in comparison. Another lively choice is Case-Mate’s Kayla Crossbody Bag ($88). This bag is wallet-size and features a chic chain strap, making it a great choice for a night out on the town. And although we are partial to the purple-tinted color combo pictured above, two other equally-striking blends are available. We are also smitten with the Bob’s Memphis Two-Tone Leather Tote ($530) by Marc by Marc Jacobs. This is a great bag for your day-to-day closet. The color combination is definitely eye-catching, which means you can pair it with just a basic jeans-and-tee combo and still stand out from the crowd. Plus, it is oh-so roomy—it can carry everything that the modern girl-on-the-go needs with room to spare!

Of course, we have plenty of options for those who need something a little less colorful, but no less interesting. To start, we adore the Americana Shoulder Bag ($295) by Z Spoke. The mini silhouette makes it a perfect choice if you need something to take you from a day out shopping to a night on the town. Plus, while the outer shell features neat neutrals like navy blue and taupe, the sides feature just a hint of pink python—fun! On the other side of the spectrum, we adore the super-sized Capaia Bag ($610) by Sonia Rykiel. The beach-ready silhouette is balanced by a classic color combination, creating a bag that has a preppy-chic vibe.

Speaking of chic, we are absolutely smitten with Reed Krakoff’s Leather Shoulder Bag ($590). The cream-and-yellow color combination feels really fresh and fashion-forward, but not over-the-top, making it a great pick for a fashion week adventure. For similar reasons, we love Diane von Furstenberg’s Harper Laurel Color-Block Leather Tote ($685). This bag also pairs neutral tones with a pop of bright color, creating a bag that stands out in a subtle way. What we really love about this bag, however, is its timeless silhouette—this bag is an investment, yes, but one you could use season after season. Last, but certainly not least, we want to point out the Pashli Zip Clutch ($425) by 3.1 Phillip Lim. If you need a statement accessory to punch up a little black dress, this is your bag! It is thin, sleek, and sophisticated, with just the right amount of color. Happy shopping!
