Top Buys: Summer 2011 Swimwear Guide

Not that you need a reason, but with summer just around the corner, it is the perfect time to revamp your swimwear collection with a fabulous new swimsuit—or two! Happily, there are tons of options on the market right now—designers have dreamed up every style you can think of, whether you want a pretty printed one-piece or a brightly colored bikini. To help you plot your course, we have rounded up a stack of swimsuits and we have something for everyone—no matter your style and budget. So, click through to explore our Summer 2011 Swimwear Guide and make sure you take notes as there are plenty of ideas and inspiration in today’s story!

Pretty Prints
Whether you lean towards bohemian pieces, or you prefer a rock and roll vibe, there is definitely something for everyone when it comes to printed swimsuits this season. If you do prefer a boho vibe, consider picking up Cali Dreaming’s Sweetheart Tie Dye One Piece ($173). If you prefer to walk on the wild side, who can look past Reiss’s Camille Animal Print Bikini ($95). Then again, if you consider yourself a gypset (gypsy + jetsetter) at heart, you should check out All Saints’s Ikat Bikini Top ($48) + Bottom ($48) for its global vibe.

There is really only one rule when it comes to swimwear: have fun. Accordingly, we just had to pick out a selection of colorblock swimsuits—after all, the spring runways were teeming with colorblock pieces, plus they are bright and bold. Who could ask for more? Naturally, we couldn’t look past Hervé Léger’s Cutout Bandage Swimsuit ($1,050), but we also picked out a few equally playful but slightly more affordable pieces: Lisa Marie Fernandez’s Color-Block Triangle Bikini ($345) and Marc By Marc Jacobs’s Colorblock Bikini Top ($72) + Bottom ($67).

Juicy Brights
It is no secret that bright juicy colors have been everywhere this season and the trend certainly doesn’t end when it comes to swimwear. If you plan on picking up a bright swimsuit this summer, look for a simple silhouette such as a triangle bikini or a belted one-piece. This will allow the bold color to steal all the focus! Read to try this look out? We like Michael Kors Collection’s Baby Belt Bandeau Bikini Set ($265), Anthropologie’s Plunging Halter Maillot ($178), and Topshop’s Pink Bikini Top ($18) + Bottom ($33).

Classic Black
There is nothing like a classic black swimsuit to make you feel sophisticated and sexy all at once. If you do opt for a black swimsuit this summer, consider picking one with an embellishment—whether it is an oversized ruffle, a smattering of crystals, or an interesting texture like crochet. Our favorites? Catherine Malandrino’s Cutout Crocheted Swimsuit ($195), Missoni Mare’s Essen Crystal-Embellished Crochet-Knit Bikini ($222), and DKNY’s Ruffle One Shoulder Maillot ($108). All three are guaranteed to make you stand out in a crowd of basic black.
