Top Buys: Wide-Leg Pants

Dear readers—it is time to shelve your skinny jeans and set aside your military-inspired cargo pants for a season or two, because right now, there’s a new bottom in town: wide-leg pants! That’s right, this season, we’re literally obsessed with wide-leg pants of every style—from dark denim to faded denim, from washed corduroy to black lace—and we can partly thank super-stylist Rachel Zoe for our obsession. Rachel is a longtime proponent of the wide-leg jean and is often spotted out and about in Los Angeles in a pair of 7 For All Mankind’s Ginger Jeans. (Fun fact: Last year, 7 For All Mankind reissued the Ginger Jeans in honor of Rachel!) Wear your wide-leg pants a la Rachel by pairing them with an extra-long tee, a fitted boyfriend blazer and a pair of killer platform heels. The resulting outfit is 70s-inspired and yet oh-so-modern. On that note, we present our latest Top Buys story and five must-have options! Read on!

1. Lovestory Low-Rise Flared Jeans ($210) by J Brand
The faded blue wash on these jeans will instantly evoke the free-spirited days of the 1970s. Wear your Lovestory jeans with an oversized faux fur coat and platform wedges for a hippie-luxe look. For a casually chic ensemble, pair them with a pussybow blouse and leather sandals.

2. The Low Rise Bell Flared Jeans ($235) by Current/Elliott
We adore these midnight black jeans by Current/Elliott—they’re so versatile. For a nautical look, pair them with a bateau-striped top and red ballet flats. For a perfectly put together look, wear them with a white button-down boyfriend shirt and a pair of Yves Saint Laurent’s Tribute Sandals.

3. Moto Rust Wide Leg Cord Trousers ($85) from Topshop
To truly channel the bohemian aesthetic of the 1970s, we would pair these with an embroidered peasant top and a pair of sandals, and then top off the outfit with a pile of jewelry. The result? A modern-boho outfit that is perfect for a day in the summer sun.

4. Lace Bell Bottom Pants ($188) by Nightcap
Perhaps our most bold choice of the bunch, these Nightcap bell bottom pants are ideal for the girl who likes to make a statement. We recommend keeping your ensemble simple by pairing them with a slouchy white tank top and a cropped denim jacket.

5. Moto Indigo Kick Flare Jeans ($80) from Topshop
The dark inky-blue wash on the jeans is smart and sophisticated, not to mention entirely reminiscent of Rachel Zoe’s favorite pair. Wear them with a long black tee and throw a boyfriend blazer on top. Then, simply add a felt hat, oversized sunglasses, a designer bag and platform heels!
