This spring, nothing will lift you out of the dreary darkness of winter like a bold color combo—as seen on the Gucci spring 2011 runway, above, as well as at Missoni, Jil Sander, and Prabal Gurung, just to name a few. Of course, plenty of top tastemakers have been trying this trend also, which makes it even easier to convert this runway idea into reality. Whether you opt for straight-off-the-runway styling (a la Olivia Wilde) or you give the look your own personal twist (like Rihanna), we’re sure you’ll find plenty of ideas in today’s Trend Report! Read on!
Actress Olivia Wilde has quickly proven she is one to watch in the world of celebrity style—just look at the ensemble she wore to the Gucci boutique cocktail celebration in Paris last month. Although we adore Olivia’s turquoise, jade and black Gucci jumpsuit—it’s oh-so-striking—we are particularly enamored with her accessories. Her gold snake-embossed collar necklace (by Yves Saint Laurent, no less) and strappy black heels add a personal touch to the outfit. For a similar look, layer Tory Burch’s Lucienne Shell Top ($182.50) over ArynK’s Gilded Harem Pants ($68). Then, simply add Free People’s Indian Collar Necklace ($29.95).
In the past few years, Rihanna has become almost as well known for her bold fashion choices as she has for her music. Example? Just a few weeks ago, Rihanna was spotted in London wearing a cropped purple sweater, high-waist tangerine pants, and gold platform pumps. It is a daring look, certainly, but with a little confidence, a colorful Rihanna-inspired look is certainly possible. Try it for yourself by pairing Wet Seal’s Crop Pull Over ($7.99) or C&C California’s Long Sleeve Crop Tee ($14.40) with Topshop’s Premium Studded Tapered Trousers ($50). To finish, grab a pair of DKNY’s Sybill Platform Pumps ($93.60).
Last month, actress Emmy Rossum attended a party celebrating Genlux’s latest issue wearing a look fresh off the DKNY runway. While a red-and-pink look can be tricky to pull off, we think Emmy has succeeded with aplomb—her black sash belt helps to break up the colors without drawing any attention away from the ensemble. We also love the rosy beauty look she has put together! To create a similarly stylish ensemble, tuck Equipment’s Hard Feelings Blouse ($175) into ASOS’s Exaggerated Bow Mini Skirt ($53.79) or Kimchi Blue’s Full Skirt ($19.99). Then, simply add American Apparel’s Sash Belt ($16)!
Last, but certainly not least, we look to actress Camilla Belle for inspiration. Over the weekend, Camilla wore a head-to-toe Gucci ensemble for a pre-Grammy brunch in West Hollywood. Her multihued ensemble is so versatile—it’s a perfect look for a fashion industry party, a red-carpet event, a night out with the girls, or a cool cocktail party. The best part, however, is how easy it is to recreate! To start, grab Anna Molinari’s Pleated Twill Pants ($122) or Scervino Street’s Harem Pants ($89). Then, add Silence & Noise’s Silk Crossback Cami ($54) and Vanessa Bruno’s Crepe Structured-Shoulder Jacket ($670).
