Valentine’s Day may be a distant memory at this point, but that doesn’t mean you can’t inject a little romance into your spring wardrobe with the latest must-try trend: heart prints! If you’re not convinced, let us sway you. Firstly, you’ll be in good company—tastemakers like Emma Roberts and Taylor Swift have been spotted in heart-adorned duds lately. Secondly, heart prints were spotted at both Anna Sui and J Crew’s spring shows. And thirdly, is there a better way to step into spring than with a playful and pretty print? Not so much. On that note, click through to today’s Trend Report to discover who is working this look and how you can make it your own.
Who is trying this trend?
Emma Roberts was one of the first stars to step out in this trend, choosing a heart-print blouse for the Google Music concert series at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City back in January. Just a few days later, however, Emmy Rossum wore a pretty red Anna Sui dress to a party in Los Angeles. In February, Reese Witherspoon was spotted wearing a heart-print sweater while out and about in Brentwood, shortly before Taylor Swift was seen in a black Dolce & Gabbana dress while out to lunch in Los Angeles.
How are they styling it?
Because this trend focuses on a print and not a particular piece, the styling choices are endless. For instance, if you want to incorporate this look into your casual, everyday closet, you should take notes from Emma and Reese. Emma paired her blouse with a pair of skinny jeans and ankle boots, while Reese coupled her sweater with a beige Wren skirt, suede ankle boots, and a cute fedora. Both these looks are perfect for a Saturday shopping date or low-key Sunday brunch.
You could also follow the lead of both Emmy and Taylor and opt for a dressier look. For instance, Emmy amplified her red dress by pairing it with a red Jimmy Choo clutch and matching nails and lipstick. To add a little balance, she opted for nude Jimmy Choo heels. As for Taylor, she created a cool and chic look by pairing her dress with black ballet flats, a Ralph Lauren Collection saddle bag, and black sunglasses. We like the way her bag adds a pop of color to the outfit but doesn’t detract from her dress.
How can I make this look my own?
If you want to try a casual piece, we suggest you check out Vero Moda’s Knitted Cardigan ($57), Marc by Marc Jacobs’ Heart-Print Silk Top ($250), Rebecca Taylor’s Ikat Heart Printed Cami ($250), and Nasty Gal’s Ikat Heart Blouse ($38). All four of these tops would look just as great with a pair of jeans as they would a little black skirt. Halston Heritage’s Embellished Heart Knitwear ($260) is another great pick, plus it has a glam twist.
If you like how Emmy and Taylor tried the trend, we have plenty of heart-print dresses for you to check out. For instance, Nasty Gal’s Heartbreaker Dress ($48) is ready to go, as are Dahlia’s Sketchy Heart Skater Dress ($111) and Rebecca Taylor’s Ikat Heart Print Dress ($350). And if you are in the market for something budget-friendly, you can’t say no to Forever 21’s Heart Print Dress ($23).
