Trend Report: Sunny Yellow

If you aren’t already in the spirit of spring, the latest trend to pop up on our radar—sunny yellow—is sure to get you there in a hurry! Not only is this trend fun and playful, but there is something out there for girls of every style and budget. Plus, with stylish stars like Nicole Richie and Reese Witherspoon leading the way, it is hard not to want to give it a try. On that note, we suggest you click through to today’s Trend Report for all the details on who is working this look, how they are styling it, and how you can make it your own!

Who is trying this trend?
Last month, Heidi Klum kicked off this bright new trend when she wore a shimmering yellow Versace dress to the Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards viewing party in West Hollywood. Just a few weeks later, Reese Witherspoon wore a yellow Louis Vuitton dress to the premiere of This Means War in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. A day after that, Nicole Richie wore a leather Thakoon dress for an appearance on Extra in Los Angeles. Last, but certainly not least, we spotted Elizabeth Banks in a gorgeous Bill Blass gown at the premiere of The Hunger Games in London, England.

How are they styling it?
As you can see, all four of our muses have given their yellow dress their own personal twist. Reese ensured her sunny yellow dress would stand out by pairing it with black accessories—specifically, a waist belt and Jimmy Choo heels. Elizabeth, however, went in the opposite direction. She paired her gown with a yellow Judith Leiber croc clutch, which helped catch the eye just as much as her dress did. Unsurprisingly, Nicole paired her dress with pieces from her House of Harlow 1960 jewelry line, but she also added a brown vintage belt, which gave it a touch of Nicole’s signature bohemian look. As for Heidi, she opted to err on the glamorous side by pairing her dress with gold-tipped Christian Louboutin heels and a gold clutch.

How can I make this look my own?
Now for the fun part: shopping! If you are looking for a fun party dress, you simply must check out Trina Turk’s Sleeveless Pleated Dress ($298) and Juicy Couture’s Daisy Guipure Dress ($298). If you need to step it up a notch for a more formal event, make sure you check out these gorgeous dresses: Thakoon Addition’s Superfine Belted Maxi Dress ($450) and Viktor & Rolf’s Yellow Goddess Gown ($1,975). If, on the other hand, you need something causal, a la Nicole, we like BB Dakota’s Thatcher Woven Dress ($61), Lipsy’s Stripe Waisted Dress ($81) and Nasty Gal’s Milan Cutout Dress ($58). Finally, if you want to do as Heidi has done and put together an outfit that is as bold as it is sexy, check out Dsquared2’s Racer Back Scuba Dress ($685) and Opening Ceremony’s Spongy Mini Dress ($295).

What about accessories?
For more formal events, we suggest you follow the lead of Elizabeth and Heidi and opt for yellow or gold accessories like Rebecca Minkoff’s Ostrich Beau Clutch ($395) and Badgley Mischka’s Fierce Metallic Strappy Sandals in Gold ($175). If you want to take tips from Reese and make sure your dress stands out, try a pair of black heels like Steven By Steve Madden’s Angels Peep-Toe Pumps in Black ($159). Finally, if you love the way Nicole added a personal touch to her look by picking out a vintage accessory, we definitely suggest you pick up Free People’s Vintage Chainmail Snake Belt ($398).
