Trend Report: White Dresses

Here at Mama’s A Rolling Stone, we believe that few things are as synonymous with the spring/summer season as a white dress, which is why we are so thrilled that white dresses are one of the biggest trends this season. Not only were white dresses spotted on the runways of such notable brands as Dolce & Gabbana, Derek Lam and Calvin Klein, but plenty of top tastemakers have been trying this trend – including Nicole Richie and Rihanna. If you are ready to make this look your own, we’re sure you’ll find plenty of inspiration in today’s Trend Report! Read on!

Hailee Steinfeld
She may be a rising star in the film industry, but actress Hailee Steinfeld is also an up-and-coming star in the fashion world. For proof, just look at the ensemble Hailee put together for The Hollywood Reporter’s Nominees’ Night party in Los Angeles last month. Her bright-white Tommy Hilfiger dress is young, fresh and age-appropriate, and her accessories are spot-on also – a clutch and a pair of pumps make a simple yet stylish statement. For a similar look, pick up Topshop’s Cami Ruch Mesh Dress ($92) or Pleat Dress ($95) and pair it with BCBGeneration’s Parade Platform Pumps ($62.16) in pewter.

Isabel Lucas
Australian actress Isabel Lucas is known for her modern-boho aesthetic – she consistently mixes high-end designer frocks with vintage pieces and quirky hippie accessories. Case in point: for the Los Angeles premiere of I Am Number Four, Isabel wore a pretty white frock, a 70s-inspired headband, and simple ballet flats. We love how versatile this look is– you can put together a similar look for a cocktail party or a summer music festival. Try it for yourself by picking up ASOS’s Premium Brushed Cotton Sateen Dress ($116.55) and pairing it with Tory Burch’s Eddie Patent Ballet Flats ($178) and Ban.do’s Crystal Ribbon Tie Headband ($165).

Nicole Richie
Designer/writer Nicole Richie is a style chameleon – on any one day, you might find her opting for a rocker vibe, a hippie look, or a glamorous gown. For Elton John’s post-Academy Awards party in Los Angeles last month, Nicole opted for a sleek white maxi dress with cut-outs and a thigh-high slit. Paired with fire-red lipstick and an oversized black clutch, Nicole’s ensemble was the perfect mix of old-school glamour and contemporary charm. To create a similarly stylish ensemble, pick up 3.1 Phillip Lim’s Cross Collar Faux Wrap Dress ($525) and pair it with Nicole Miller’s Ella Caino Clutch ($295).

Rihanna
If there is one thing about Rihanna that is certain, it is that she knows how to make a style statement. We love the contrast between her fiery red hairdo and her white-hot Gucci dress, which she wore to a pre-Grammy brunch in Los Angeles last month. Paired with pointy-toed pumps, the result is a sophisticated ensemble with a playful twist. To try this look for yourself, pick up ASOS’s Linen Tailored Pleat Waist Workwear Dress ($71.72) and add Kate Spade’s Licorice Suede Pumps ($285). If a similar hairstyle isn’t feasible, add a dash of red lipstick or a bold clutch to make a similar statement.

Love it! So fresh. Here’s a pic I took of a mum recently in the playground, in all white. Proves you dont have to keep white just for non kid occassions!
