Yesterday, Vanity Fair released the cover image of its 17th annual Hollywood issue. Gorgeous actress Anne Hathaway stars alongside Jake Gyllenhaal, Ryan Reynolds, and James Franco on the main cover. Inside the three-panel foldout cover, you’ll find a slew of up-and-coming stars: Jennifer Lawrence, Olivia Wilde, Mila Kunis, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Jesse Eisenberg, Anthony Mackie, Rashida Jones, Noomi Rapace, Andrew Garfield, Garrett Hedlund, and Robert Duvall. Also on the cover? A lion cub, which was a surprise to the cover subjects!
The cover image, which was shot in Los Angeles and New York City, is meant to “evoke the glamour of 1930s Shanghai, an era of smoky, alluring elegance,” according to Vanity Fair’s fashion and style director Jessica Diehl. “We had the gentlemen looking dashing in black tie, whilst the ladies were radiant in spring’s gowns – from Gucci to Yves Saint Laurent – and glittering with diamonds from Chanel and other arbiters of glamour.”
As for the contents, the Vanity Fair team wanted to go “back to the basics” for this issue, meaning “no teenagers, no penguins, no (full-on) nudity, just the most exciting actors and actresses of the moment.” What do you think of the issue so far? Did they succeed?
