If you only plan to buy one accessory this spring/summer, make it a statement necklace. With stars like Eva Mendes and Olivia Palermo leading the way, the statement/bib necklace has become one of the season’s biggest accessory trends.
For the really wild at heart, London-based designer Anita Quansah has you covered. Since graduating from the Chelsea College of Art and Design in London, Quansah has created unique pieces for brands such as Christian Lacroix, Diane Von Furstenberg and Victoria’s Secret; in 2004, she embroidered a jacket for Christian Lacroix’s couture show.
Quansah’s statement necklaces are as eclectic and stylish as anything you have ever seen, and will require some serious courage. Each piece is one-of-a-kind and effortlessly fuses bohemian, tribal chic with a modern twist. Quansah uses vintage fabrics and reclaimed textiles to make each necklace and has started to introduce colorful elements – think pearls, beads, rhinestones, ribbon, fringe and rope – to give her collection a more contemporary feel.
The Theda Necklace – pictured in German Vogue – is a great example of Quansah’s work. The oversized neckpiece is shaped like a breastplate and is made of vintage black lace, brass studs and a vintage turquoise pendant, among other things.
The Theda is still available for purchase at ShrimptonCouture.com (remember, there is only one of each), while other pieces are available at NotJustALabel.com.
