Steal Her Style

In our latest edition of Steal Her Style, we’re enamored with ensembles from Thandie Newton, Rachel Bilson and Nicky Hilton.

Steal Her Style

Every year, around this time, fashion fans are presented with a tricky style query: how do we make the transition from summer to fall? Specifically, as the days cool from boiling to balmy, which pieces are best for layering? Of course, there is plenty of style inspiration to be had for this particular query, but, as we were putting together today’s edition of Steal Her Style, we noticed a theme: all three of today’s style muses have put together pieces that can be peeled on and off as the weather dictates. If you’re eyeing Thandie Newton’s draped tweed jacket or Nicky Hilton’s tux-cut blazer, we’ve got plenty of suitable alternatives. Similarly, if you’re longing for Rachel Bilson’s ankle boots—the warm-weather alternative to fall’s chunkier styles—we’ve found some similarly stylish stand-ins! So, sit back and enjoy our latest (new and improved) edition of Steal Her Style!

Thandie Newton
There is no denying it: some of Hollywood’s biggest style stars, such as actress Thandie Newton, are as obsessed with French designer Isabel Marant as the rest of the world. Case in point: last week, Thandie wore a gorgeous tiered Isabel Marant skirt to a special performance of Into The Hoods in London. We love the way she styled her skirt in a playful yet put-together way by pairing it with a tweed jacket and lighthearted graphic t-shirt by Marni. So, how do we steal Thandie’s chic and cheerful style? We suggest starting your look with Rory Beca’s Layered Tweed Miniskirt ($115.50) or Guess By Marciano’s Kionna Ruffle Mini Skirt ($118), and then picking up Hinge’s Crop Tweed Jacket ($138). From there, you can either choose the real thing—Marni’s Puppet Print Jersey T-Shirt ($255)—or a budget-friendly alternative such as ASOS’s Heart Smiley Face Tee ($26.96). Last, but definitely not least, finish off your look with a pair of chic strappy sandals—we like Yves Saint Laurent’s Tribute Platform Sandals ($760) or Schutz’s Strap Platforms ($160).

Rachel Bilson
“It’s so easy to layer sheer clothing and make a statement,” Rachel Bilson recently observed to InStyle. At Mama’s A Rolling Stone, we wholeheartedly agree—especially when it comes to Rachel’s latest ensemble, which she wore while out and about in Los Angeles last month. On this occasion, however, it wasn’t just Rachel’s sheer, lace-trimmed blouse that made a statement—it was her entire ensemble, from the cut-off denim shorts down to the (surprise!) Isabel Marant ankle boots. Now, onto the million-dollar question: how do we steal Rachel’s statement-making style? We suggest starting with Beyond Vintage’s Lace Front Blouse ($190) or ModCloth’s Whistler’s Sister Blouse ($52.99)—both will look subtly sexy over Camellia’s Lace Bralette ($20) in black. Layer your sheer blouse-and-bra combo over Degaine’s Cutoff Shorts ($165) and then throw on a pair of Ray-Ban’s Classic Wayfarer Sunglasses ($145). To finish, slip into a pair of suede cowboy-inspired boots—we like Rosegold’s Cone Heel Suede Ankle Boots ($178) and ASOS’s Amelia Suede Chelsea Ankle Boots ($67.40).

Nicky Hilton
Although Nicky Hilton usually prefers to stay out of the limelight—as much as is possible with a famous last name like Hilton—we can’t help, every now and then, but shine the style spotlight on her. After all, she was spotted out in Beverly Hills in an expertly effortless ensemble: cropped skinny jeans, slouchy striped tee, boyfriend blazer, and suede pointy-toe pumps. So, how do we steal Nicky’s naturally chic style? Obviously you know that a great boyfriend blazer and a pair of pointed pumps are wardrobe must-haves—or, as we like to put it, investment pieces—so start out with these essentials. To begin with, we suggest Topshop’s Shrunken Ruched Sleeve Jacket ($110) and Elizabeth & James’ Relaxed James Blazer ($395). Pair your blazer with Nicky’s exact Isabel Marant Poppy Suede Pumps ($620) or a similarly-stylish pair such as Elizabeth & James’ E-Jacky Heels. Then, simply add BDG’s Ankle Cigarette Jeans ($54) and a nautical-inspired tee—we like Splendid’s Nautical Tee ($66) and Gap’s Striped Cuff-Sleeve Tee ($12.99 – $14.99).
