Street Chic: July 2010

While the fashion world offers a slew of stylish sources to pull inspiration from – runway shows, celebrity events and more – there has, for the last few years, been one source that has steadily climbed the ladder to stand out among the rest: fashion blogs. That’s right; all across the world, fashion fans are chronicling their most chic ensembles for an admiring online audience. For today’s Street Chic story, we have plucked six style-savvy muses from the blogosphere who we are just positive will inspire you.

A brief glimpse at our six picks reveals a fashionable fusion of styles, colors, prints, trends and, of course, backgrounds – in fact, today’s story traverses the world from Milan to San Francisco (and the some 6000 miles in between!) So, whether you’re revamping your closet in time for fall, or you just want some brand spanking new inspiration, sit down, pick a girl (or two!) and get inspired with this month’s edition of Street Chic.

#1. We love how Wendy, from San Francisco, has taken a selection of sophisticated pieces – most notably, her boyfriend blazer and leather loafers – and given them a modern twist by adding a graphic tee and denim shorts. The result? A casual-yet-chic ensemble that is totally age-appropriate. For a similarly stylish outfit, we recommend pairing AE’s Boyfriend Blazer ($69.5) and Forever 21’s Artemis Graphic Tee ($7.99) with Diesel’s Bejo Denim Shorts ($72). Cap off your ensemble with great accessories – we like Topshop’s Karl Tassel Loafers ($100), BDG’s Tweed Fedora ($28) and Gap’s Straw Hobo ($46.32). To check out more of Wendy’s personal style, head to Hand It Over.

#2. Our next Street Chic pick – Caylee, from Indianapolis – is a great example of how to work an unfussy summer ensemble. Caylee has effortlessly accessorized her simple grey maxi dress by adding gladiator sandals, aviator sunglasses (a la Kate Moss), a quilted bag and a slim leather belt (perfect for accentuating your figure.) To recreate Caylee’s look, try Topshop’s Scoop Back Maxi Dress ($55) or ASOS’s Knitted Maxi Dress ($67.38). Then, simply add a vintage-inspired belt, such as Anthropologie’s Pebbled Double Wrap Belt ($19.95), and a pair of sandals like J Crew’s Reese Studded Back-Zip Gladiator Sandals ($99.99). To check out more of Caylee’s personal style, head to If You Seek Style.

#3. There is nothing more subtly sexy than a slightly-unbuttoned boyfriend shirt and denim cut-offs, as deftly demonstrated by Natalie, from Los Angeles. We firmly believe that both these pieces are essential to every girl’s closet – while simple, they come together to create an outfit that is effortlessly chic. To take a page from Natalie’s book, grab LnA’s Long Sleeve Collar Shirt ($154) and layer it over Siwy’s Camilla Cut Off Denim Shorts ($158). A pair of wrap sandals will complete your ensemble – we like BCBGeneration’s Darnell Multi-Colored Ankle-Wrap Sandals ($29.99) and Franco Sarto’s Scan Strappy Leather Wedge Sandals ($49.99). To check out more of Natalie’s personal style, head to Natalie Off Duty.

#4. Up next is Siri, from Brooklyn, who has seamlessly incorporated two major trends – tie-dye and menswear – into one fab ensemble. We love how she has skillfully balanced her tapered pants – which add an element of androgyny to her look – with an overtly feminine tie-dye top. To pull off an equally chic look, try Cielo’s Tie-Dye Hi-Low Pocket Tank ($42) or Topshop’s Tie Dye Tee ($90), layered over Topshop’s Twill Tapered Trousers ($70). Complete your look with Calvin Klein’s Kaylor Suede Pumps ($139). To check out more of Siri’s personal style, head to Ringo, Have A Banana.

#5. A printed bohemian-luxe mini dress is an essential summer piece that can be worn on a slew of different occasions – from a day by the beach to a poolside party to a glam cocktail event. Chiara, from Milan, keeps hers casual-yet-chic by pairing it with cool white sandals and a blue Balenciaga bag. To recreate this effortless ensemble, start with Anna Sui’s Printed Silk Dress ($612) or ASOS’s Shapes Print Dress ($33.69). Finish off your look with K Jacques St Tropez’s Valerie T-Bar Leather Sandals ($245) and a colorful shoulder bag – we like Modalu’s Small Thunder Leather Shoulder Bag ($50.54). To check out more of Chiara’s personal style, head to The Blonde Salad.

#6. Our final Street Chic pick comes courtesy of Juley, from New Orleans, whose simple yet sophisticated look evokes the 70s-era Parisian-chic ensembles of Jane Birkin and Brigitte Bardot. For a similarly stylish outfit, we like Goldie’s Stripe U Tank ($74) and BDG’s High Rise Cigarette Jeans ($58), especially when accessorized with Matt & Nat’s Deetron Canvas Backpack/Bucket Bag ($215) and Style Naturale’s Oval Silver Chain Black Horn Necklace ($125). To check out more of Juley’s personal style, head to Swank Heights.
